Artist Spotlight - Captain Hooks

Daniel Santana Brown, or Captain Hooks, made his appearance on September 22nd 1984, in the maternity ward of a Jamaican hospital, moved to Toronto at the age of eight. The eldest of five children, he felt the need to lead by example, and continues to do so even today as he crafts and hones his music. As a talented songwriter, composer, and lyricist, Brown is a triple threat, many who have worked with him or had the chance to observe him say that he’s musically gifted with has the ability to write any genre of music. Brown’s impressive resume includes penning songs for numerous artists and theme songs for multiply sports teams.

Hooks has worked with and performed with artists such as Juelz Santana, Lloyd Banks, Snow, Baby Sham, Ludacris, and Mya. Hooks is not just another rapper – he writes lyrics that transcend genres of music, and as his alias suggests, has mastered the art of hook writing. It’s these talents that separate Hooks from the rest proving he is multi-dimensional in his craft and exuberating the true essence of an artist.

So I been slackin so I decided to do a double feature Artist Spotlight. First up is Neon Hitch.
Like the pic? Well, that my friends is Neon Hitch. Take the most tangible aspects of music, candy-coat them and light them on fire. That is the only way to picture the sound of Neon Hitch. She reminds me of a cross between Lily Allen & Nelly Furtado with a small dash of Peaches tossed in. While many artists are bred from suburbia and craft delicate tales of the what-ifs, Neon Hitch (yes, that's her birth name) has actually seen and lived the life of a true free spirit. The young siren spent her early years in a traveling circus with her family. A trapeze artist and fire swinger, Neon nurtured her inner performer early on in festivals throughout Portugal, Spain, France, and other parts of Europe. She was also Amy Winehouse's flatmate.
Her songs shift from slick electro-pop to Hip-Hop infused chamber music; each note reflecting a personal anecdote in the life of a true wanderlust. With both physical beauty and vocal grace, she is the artist we have been waiting for. Well, it's been a minute but here is the second installment of the Artist Spotlight. This time I am featuring an artist named Irazema. There is not much out on the web in terms of a bio for her because, well, she hasn't exactly made it to the big times yet . I can tell you though that she is a dance teacher at the high school I went to. She is an amazing dancer and choreographer. She has an album recorded featuring 12 songs. Like I said she's not famous so I couldn't find all of the songs. I must credit her producer Khoa Le, the man behind all her songs. KRISTA, is a new, 21-year old singer, songwriter and musician whose artistry is built on the rich, layered dichotomy between struggle and expression. She has a life of experiences that belies her age, and which she draws upon to form her singular identity as a vibrant, emerging artist. What she has felt in her life, you will feel in her music, and like her background, Krista’s music brazenly defies categorization: a combination of soaring vocals, big beats, beautiful melodies, and street-savvy raps. Her music swings from a rock undertone to a raw hip-hop flow.

Krista’s music is an amalgamation of sounds. She is as inspired by the boisterous attitudes of early female MCs (Salt-n-Pepa, Queen Latifa), as she is the escapist rock of Evanescence and Linkin Park, or the angelic voice of Sarah McLachlan. Really. She mixes live instruments with bedroom beats, and incorporates the sass and fire of her heritage into everything she does.

OK so I decided to start a music blog. I always have bangin music so I decided I would share some tracks when they came out. Instead of just giving people names of sites and then leaving them to sort thru the garbage I will do it for you and post the best tracks. I will also be taking requests if there is a song you can't find. I will be posting full albums as they are made available to me and there may even be a couple movies up sometimes if they are leaked. I will try to update daily but if there is no good music or I don't have time then sorry.
